EBSCOHOST DATABASES: SEARCH TIPS

Note to off-campus users: Use Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher, Mozilla Firefox 1.5 or higher, or Safari 1.1 or higher when accessing our site for EBSCOhost database access.  Remote access is limited to DMACC students and staff.

  1. At the library homepage, select the desired category under FIND ARTICLES.

  2. Click on the name of the EBSCOhost database you want to search.  (To search more than one database at the same time, click on EBSCOhost Web and select EBSCOhost Web or EBSCOhost Español.  Select all the databases you want to search and click on the Continue button.)  Descriptions of the databases are provided below.

  3. When the search screen displays, type a topic or keyword in the first text box.  Phrases should be enclosed in quotation marks (e.g. "hurricane katrina").  Capital letters aren't necessary.

You can narrow your search to a specific field by clicking on the arrow to the right of the text box and selecting the field you want to search.

Type additional concepts or keywords in the text boxes provided if you have more than one idea you want to include.

  4. Under "Refine Search" use the limiters provided to retrieve the type of resources you want.

Click in the Full Text box to retrieve full text articles only.

Click in the Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) box if you need articles from scholarly research journals.

Select additional limiters as needed.  (If you are searching multiple databases, you can select special limiters for each database individually.)

  5. Click on the Search button.

  6. From your result list, click on the title of any article you want to view.  Read the short summary (abstract) of the article to decide whether you want to see the full text.

  7. Click on HTML Full Text or PDF Full Text to view the full text of the article.
