INFORMATION LITERACY TUTORIAL (TILT)

Information literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to "recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information."  (Final Report of the American Library Association Presidential Committee on Information Literacy.  Chicago: The Association, 1989.)

The Texas Information Literacy Tutorial (TILT) is an interactive set of modules that will help you develop your information literacy skills.

The tutorial includes a brief introduction, three modules, and a follow-up.  The modules take about 30 minutes each to complete.  You may complete one, two, or all three modules in a session.

Suggestion: Print this page before going to the tutorial so you will have a copy of the instructions if you need them.

Tutorial Instructions:

• Find the tutorial on the Web by clicking on this link:  TILT
• Click on TILT Lite.
• Click on "First Time Visitors" to register for the tutorial.
• When completing the registration form, choose "Other school" for your university.
• Select one of the topics offered and click on the "Choose It" button at the bottom of the page.
• Click on Intro for the tutorial overview, or click on the module you wish to complete.
• After completing a module, take the quiz at the end.
• If you are completing the tutorial for a DMACC class, make sure you have a printed record of your quiz results to turn in to your instructor.  You can print the summary page at the end of the quiz, or e-mail the page to yourself and print the e-mail.
